Learn to Ski

The quickest way to learn to ski on a cable is to hire a kneeboard (included in the price). As the name suggests, you kneel on the board and because your centre of gravity is much lower than on skiis or a wakeboard you`ll find it easier to navigate around the corners of the cable ski (as you will be more stable). If you've skiied on a boat before, but not a cable it can also be a good idea to try the kneeboard first just to get the hang of the corners.

What to Expect

When you arrive, book in at our desk which is located inside the building. One of our instructors will then sort you out with kit (wetsuit, buoyancy aid, kneeboard) and when you are changed they will instruct you on safety and how to navigate the course on a kneeboard - then it`s your turn to put it into practice on the water!

Kneeboarding to Skiing

Once you`ve mastered the kneeboard (which can be from your first go to an hour later - everyone is different) then you might want to move onto ski's, this will get you used to standing up on the water with your centre of gravity much higher.

Wakeboarding

The most popular type of waterskiing at the cable ski by far is wakeboarding, small wonder as it is still the world's fastest growing watersport and has been for a good few years!.

Wakeboarding is initially trickier to learn than kneeboarding or skiing as it means you have to learn to hold your body in (what can feel like!) an unnatural "sideways on" positiion (though after a while it does become pretty natural). It`s much quicker to learn to wakeboard once you have mastered the kneeboard and ski`s, so we recommend trying these first before hiring one of our wakeboards for the session.

Wakeskating

Growing in popularity all the time, wakeskating is getting pretty popular here at sheffield. As the name suggests it's got it's roots in skateboarding and if you've skated before you'll recognise the tricks. If you want to wakeskate you'll need your own equipment as we don't hire out wakeskates, but you'll find learning to wakeboard first will help you if you then decide to move onto a wakeskate.
