Introductory Cable Session

About the Session

This session is for beginners to kneeboarding/ water-skiing and wakeboarding and riders moving from straight-line cable and boat riding to full-size cable. This session runs at normal cable speed and slow speed (see below for slow speed session times). The session includes a short safety brief and basic instruction at the start of the session, after that you’re free to have a go yourself and join the cable system - when you fall off, just swim to the bank and walk back to the dock to have another go

The aim of the session is to learn how to set off from the dock and understand how to navigate the corners of the cable system.

What’s included?

  • Safety Brief & Instruction (approx. 20 mins)

  • Cable Time

  • Kneeboard Hire

  • Water-ski Hire (limited availability)

Available Extras

  • Helmet Hire (£2 per person) It is compulsory to wear a helmet, you may bring your own but it must be a water-ski / wakeboard specific helmet.

  • Additional Instruction Once your safety brief has finished you will still be able to ask questions and get additional tips from our team. There isn’t an additional charge for this but availability of staff is subject to demand on the day - please ask if you need more help.

What do I need to bring?

Please bring swimwear to wear underneath your wetsuit.

✓ Footwear (optional) - to make walking back to the dock more comfortable you can wear wetsuit socks/ wetsuit shoes whilst kneeboarding (shoes can't be worn whilst wakeboarding as they won’t fit inside the bindings)
✓ Please bring a towel to dry off after your session (shower on your return home)

Slow Speed Sessions

Saturday and Sunday: 11:00 a.m - 1:00 p.m
Summer School Holidays:
Mon 12-2 p.m, Tue 2-4 p.m, Wed 12-2 p.m, Thur 2-4 p.m, Fri 12-2 p.m

Our introductory cable sessions are available both at slow cable running speed and at normal speed. If you are visiting with friends who are taking part in the normal cable speed session and you want to join them, you can book an introductory session during normal speed times. The slower speed sessions are great for mixed ability groups or for younger or lighter riders as it can be* easier to learn to navigate the corners of the cable whilst it is running at a slower speed.

* Not everyone will find it easier to progress at a slower speed, it isn’t compulsory to learn at a slower speed.

Our slowest speed session is our Junior Riders Session for 8-14 year olds, these sessions are too slow for most adults but we do offer slow speed times for 12+ years at the times above.

Next Steps:

Once you have successfully completed one of our Introductory Cable Sessions you are free to book either our Cable Sessions (at normal speed) or our Slow Speed Cable Sessions.

FAQs

  • Please see our prices page for more information.

  • We are affliated to BWSW (British Waterski and Wakeboard) and follow their guidelines for full-size cable. BWSW recommend learning to navigate the corners on a kneeboard first before trying wakeboarding as its the easiest way to get the hang of the corners on a full-size cable system. You will only need to make it around the cable system a few times on a kneeboard so that you get the hang of the corners and then you’re free to hire a wakeboard :-).

  • Yes, depending on the age of your child! For younger riders we do recommend our Junior Riders session as a first step - this is for kids aged between 8 and 14 years and adults can’t.take part during these sessions, however, If your child is 12 or older you can choose instead to book the introductory cable session for them and you would be able to take part together.

  • Please find our Entry Requirements for the Cable Wake Park on our Code of Practice page.

  • Please arrive 30 mins before your session start time to give you time to check in and change into a wetsuit before your session start time.

If you miss the safety brief at the start of the session you won’t be able to take part in the session.
